Health & Medical Access

Health Services

The Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of its students and staff by providing accessible, responsive and supportive health services within the Institute.

MIHS operates a 3-bed sick bay that provides basic medical assessment, first aid, nursing care and support to students who require medical attention while at the Institute. The sick bay is manned by a registered nurse who provides day-to-day health services and guides students on appropriate medical care and referrals where necessary.

All students accessing health services at MIHS are required to be registered by the School Nurse. Students should also carry their student passbooks when seeking medical services at the sick bay.

For services requiring further medical assessment, specialized treatment or hospital-based care, MIHS works in collaboration with Mildmay Uganda Hospital, providing students with access to additional healthcare services when required.

Accessing Health Services

All students are encouraged to seek medical attention promptly whenever they feel unwell or require medical assistance.

To access services at the MIHS sick bay:

  1. Students must be registered by the School Nurse.
  2. Students should bring their student passbook whenever they visit the sick bay.
  3. The School Nurse will assess the student's condition and provide appropriate care.

Students are encouraged not to ignore persistent symptoms or delay seeking medical attention.

Partnership with Mildmay Uganda Hospital

MIHS benefits from the support and collaboration of Mildmay Uganda Hospital, a key healthcare partner in ensuring that students who require services beyond the capacity of the Institute sick bay can access appropriate medical care.

Through this collaboration, students can be guided and referred for further assessment, diagnosis, treatment and other healthcare services as necessary.

Health and Wellbeing

The Institute recognizes that good health is essential to successful learning and academic achievement. Students are therefore encouraged to take responsibility for their health by maintaining good personal hygiene, eating a balanced diet, getting adequate rest, seeking medical attention when necessary and following professional medical advice.

MIHS remains committed to creating a safe, healthy and supportive environment that enables students to pursue their studies successfully.
